I’m the founder of Social Kat Media— but I’m also a social media strategist, mom of two, The Office fangirl (IYKYK), and your business’ biggest cheerleader. My mission is to make social media as simple, fun, and effective as possible for small business owners like you so you can get seen, form real relationships with your community, and (yep!) make more money.
Planning your social content in advance is always a good idea. This is especially true when you are preparing for some time off around the holidays! By planning your content in advance, you save yourself time, ensure you have fresh posts going out to your audience throughout the holiday season (being consistent is key for growing your social media following) and you protect your own precious time off!
The holiday season is a great opportunity to get social, grow your audience and provide some real value. People want to have fun and feel connected to their communities and families. Gift giving is top of mind which is especially good news for product-based businesses.
As the holidays approach, your audience is getting excited. You want to make sure your business is part of the hype while still posting with purpose. This is much easier to do when you plan ahead.
Before you plan your content for the month leading up to the holidays, set a goal. If you are a product-based business, your goal might be to increase sales and grow your audience. If you are a service-based business, you may want to focus on boosting your engagement and growing a mailing list or selling a course for the new year. When you have a goal for your content, you can keep a consistent thread running through your posts which will make serving up some value much easier.
I recommend planning content one month at a time year-round. Leading up to the holidays, you might want to include some of the following in your content plan:
Remember, as a business owner the holiday season is an important time for sales but your audience needs to see that value and connection to stay engaged! Keep your content balanced by making sure that 80% of your content is serving up value and 20% of your content is telling your audience about how they can buy your products or services.
Once you have all of that juicy holiday content mapped out, why not take it one step further and schedule it! There are many scheduling tools to choose from like Later, Planoly, and Facebook’s Creator Studio. They let you get your copy, images, hashtags, and more all ready to rock so you can focus on engagement and running your business knowing your amazing content is going out consistently throughout the month.
Taking time away from your business can feel stressful. You don’t want to leave your audience hanging over the holidays. But, you also don’t want to have to put down your hot cocoa on your vacation to make a post. If you want to put your feet up and enjoy a gingerbread latte in your favourite cozy chair, then planning your holiday content in advance is the way to go. Not only will you have more consistent content that inspires your followers to engage and show your account some love, you will come back from the break feeling fresh and inspired!
