I’m the founder of Social Kat Media— but I’m also a social media strategist, mom of two, The Office fangirl (IYKYK), and your business’ biggest cheerleader. My mission is to make social media as simple, fun, and effective as possible for small business owners like you so you can get seen, form real relationships with your community, and (yep!) make more money.
If you’ve ever thought, “I can’t post this — it’s too goofy,” or “This doesn’t look polished enough,” this one’s for you.
Mariah and I both love creating content. We’re the type who can crank out 3 Reels a day just for fun. But we know that’s not the norm — and that most small business owners feel pressure to make their content perfect.
But here’s the thing: some of our most “unhinged” Reels (yes, the pun-filled, behind-the-scenes, spontaneous ones) have sparked the most connection with our audiences. Why? Because they show who we really are.
People love seeing the human behind the business. And the content that brings you joy is often the content that performs best.
Creating content alone can be so much harder than doing it with someone else. When you’re surrounded by friends who get it — like at a market, during a walk, or even just setting up for a coffee date — you feel more free, more inspired, and more likely to hit “post” instead of overthinking.
That’s also a perfect opportunity for casual collab content. It doesn’t have to be a full-blown strategy session or planned campaign — just two business owners having fun, showing up, and sharing their joy with their audiences.
Behind every “punny” Reel or coffee shop B-roll, there’s a deeper message. We’re not just posting to post — we’re repackaging our core content in new, relatable ways. When you know what your brand stands for and what your audience needs to hear, you can have fun and stay aligned with your strategy.
Repetition doesn’t make your content boring. It makes it stick.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, camera shy, or unsure what to say, here are a few takeaways from our chat:
At the end of the episode, Mariah shared how shooting your shot — whether for connection or client outreach — can change everything. Whether you’re pitching your service or just looking to connect with another business owner, it doesn’t have to feel salesy.
She’s got a free guide called “Exactly How to Pitch Better to Sign More Clients”, and it’s linked in the show notes. Trust me, it’s gold.
Your Challenge This Week:
Text a business friend. Go for coffee. Bring your tripod. Make one silly Reel together. Let go of the pressure and let yourself have fun.
Because content that feels good to make is the kind of content that creates real connection. And in the messy middle of business? That kind of connection is everything.
